Developing a future
Understanding customer needs is one of the most important aspects of providing that customer with a bespoke product.
In the case of products suplied by us, the net result has been one of increased sales, improved efficiency, improved customer relations and reduced costs. In some cases, all have been achieved.
This section of the site includes a collection of website projects, web software projects, server-client sofware projects and stand-alone software projects.
Anyone can build a website these days, there are so many 'Build Your Own Website' tools available that some people do just that. The problem is, in that they are all template based, you are often not able to create exactly what you want. The websites listed in this section have delivered exactly what the customer asked for. Every website is different because every industry, company and indivual alike has different requirements. Sometimes it's a "Call to Arms", other times a more gentile, quieter and less obtrusive site is required and so versatile, bespoke web design by Smart Data Solutions provides the answer.
Vison Windows (Manchester) Ltd
Fond of the words, "Not just another window fabricator", Ean Robinson, Managing Director has proved very often that his company can stand by these words.
They wanted a website that would impact straight away on it's visitors and so we felt that a short, true-to-life film of the factory and a few words from key members of staff would do the trick.
The film is short enough to retain the viewers attention and informative enough to provide the detail needed by perspective customers. This project was another colaboration of Smart Data Solutions and The Zoo Marketing and Advertising who filmed and edited the video.
JLS Computer Services
The JLS Computer Services website was built to coincide with the company's relocation from a unit on an industrial estate to a high-profile, main road retail outlet in Hazel Grove, Stockport.
JLS Computer Services and Smart Data Solutions have a long relationship and have worked closely together on a number of projects. When relocating, Tyson Taylor, one of the partners at JLS, asked for a website that would help enhance the business and reflect their corporate identity. Tyson had already prepared some text and images he wanted to incorporate into the site but otherwise, we were given a blank canvas on which to build the site
James North Memorial Bowling Club
The website for James North Memorial Bowling Club started out as a club website providing it's members with a source of information, a photo gallery and a message board with which they could communicate. Later expanded to incorporate the official tables, fixtures and player stats for both the Tameside and the Longdendale bowling leagues, it has now grown in popularity and attention and is renowned as one of the best bowling websites there is. Written in PHP and using MySQL as the back end database, the nature of the design lends itself to be applied to other bowling leagues and almost any other league sport.
Droylsden Glass Ltd
Droylsden Glass is an award-winning manufacturer and installer of high-quality windows, doors and conservatories. Managing Director Paul Thackeray wanted to bring his company up-to-date with a more modern look and feel. Smart Data Solutions introduced Paul to an established and highly successful marketing company to help create the new look Droylsden Glass. Zoo Marketing Ltd from Mottram in Longdendale had already worked together with SDS to produce the Malbern Windows website and had proved their ability to understand the requirements of the customer.
Malbern Windows and Doors Ltd
Malbern embarked on a marketing drive in 2009 and the website build was the first collaboration between Smart Data Solutions and Zoo Marketing Ltd. Malbern wanted a website that would attract the attention of a large selection of the country from the most southern reaches of Cheshire to the most northernly quarter of Yorkshire. They had a large base of very satisfied customers and wanted to say so. Wayne Clarke, Director at Malbern asked for a site that was a "Call to Arms". Wayne has since reported that the website has increased sales at Malbern by as much as 60%.
A typical website designed to provide the user with information about a company is usually written in the form of HTML pages. Modern day methods allow a large range of designs and features to be included in your HTML website but in order to add versatility, dynamics and user participation, we need to delve into the depths of software programming. Web-based software brings a whole new dimension to your site with a range of features like logging into secure areas, ordering online, calculation, data storage and a host of other benefits. The web-based software projects here were written in the PHP programming language and incorporate a MySQL database.
Platform C uses a large, behind-the-scenes database to store a library of mandatory documents which include policies, procedures, plans, instuctions and registers. It also uses the database to store generic mandatory information which is used to populate the content of the documents.
Company HR and senior managers control the rest of the content of Platform C by populating intuitive fields with data that is pertinent to the company or organisation. This data is then used along with the generic data to create all the mandatory documents that you need in order to be compliant.
Platform C - More Info
Company HR and senior managers also record employee data and assign Platform C responsibility to their employees thus giving each one specific user access to the system. Each employee will log in with their own credentials and have access to their own personnel data including all the documents that are relevant to them. Employees will use Platform C to request absences, report incidents or concerns and acknowledge acceptence of their employment terms and conditions.
Further workplace parameters are set by senior managers to create and maintain the core documents i.e. powerful bespoke policies. See the Platform C website for more info
Trade Windows Online
An extension to the Malbern Windows website came about in the form of an online ordering system for trade customers. Historically, Malbern's trade customers had waited hours or even days to get large enquiries processed due to the nature of the industry and the busy environment that is typical of a trade office. Stuart Kenyon, Managing Director at Malbern wanted to give his trade customers the ability to price their own work. The end result of the web-based software was that not only could those customers price their own work, if they won the contract, they would simply convert the enquiry into an order and Malbern would receive it instantly.
Longdendale Bowling League
The 'Official' website of both the Longdendale and Tameside Mens Bowling Leagues. The software is the only one of it's kind with it's unique member submission of match results which are then verified by the League Secretary. The Tameside Bowling League was the first league to use the software and has been doing so since the 2007 season. The website includes tables, fixtures, match reports, player stats, competition info and event calendar. All data is provided by the members of the league and moderated by the League Secretary. A full-featured message board enhances the user participation and has improved community spirit.
Often the most typical type of software installation in medium sized companies, client-server software has a database (Back-end) that lives on the file server and the software application (Front-end) is installed on each individual workstation. Users logon to the software with their own usernames and passwords and this logon procedure initiates the user-level security meaning that each individual, or group of users, has specific permissions assigned to them by the system administrator or Manager. The multi-user applications in this section use either Microsoft Access or SQL databases as the back-end.
Conservatory Roof Quoter©
The software was commissioned in 2006 by Malbern Windows & Doors Ltd - Glass Division just after they had aquired Conservatory Coloured Glass (CCG) Ltd in Heysham, Morecambe. The software calculates the cost of double-glazed units in conservatory roofs and quotes the customer accordingly. Users specify the customer details, the dimensions, the chosen glass product, the pitch of the roof and the delivery address. A built in mileage calculator takes care of delivery charges between Malbern's base and the destination. User-level security ensures that only administrators or managers can make system changes such as cost prices and £s per mile charges etc.
Purchase Manager Pro©
Designed to facilitate the buyers in any department, this multi-user software can be applied to almost any industry. The versatily of the software is such that it forms the basis from which additional modules can be added to accomodate specific industry purchase methods. The system, like all other server-client software projects incorporates user-level security so that Financial Directors, Departmental Heads and Managers can control spending and budgets. With addition features like Crystal Reports and built-in emailing of the orders, Purchase Manager Pro© means you can scrap all those carbon-copy purchase order pads.
Perhaps less popular in the business environment is the stand-alone or single-user type of software. Nevertheless, the software will still incorporate the versatility, the dynamics and the total bespoke nature of the other, multi-user products. The single-user software application is generally a very specific and very personalized tool designed to assist the individual with his or her daily needs. It may still incorporate a database, the difference being is that the data will be stored on the local machine instead of on a server. Some examples of stand-alone software projects are shown here.
Personal Trainer Management System©
Still under development, this single-user application was commissioned by Jamie Lester, Personal Trainer. Jamie is very professional and he wanted to be able to offer his clients a training programme that he can manage easily. Furthermore, he wanted to demonstrate their progress to them by means of graphs and printouts that shows blood pressure, resting heart rate and all other test results over his 12 week plan. The software calculates critical data in order to pinpoint where the focus of attention should be.
